On Error Culture and looking for Errors

In a partially automated warehouse, there are a lot of numbers behind processes that have to be analysed. Working at our Reporting team, Guido works as Manager Quality Assurance and is responsible for evaluating the process quality using data. To be more precise, he analyses the source and structure of data sets in the system, and he checks if there are errors in them. Guido himself uses the metaphor of "small police". He summarises his task like this: "I ensure we make our client happy by internally finding the errors in processes and systems and taking corrective actions against them." By checking the data, improvement potentials can be detected.

More than 10 years of experience

Guido originally worked in the food service industry. He jumped careers to join Ingram Micro, which was Docdata back then. During his career, he has already worked in Inbound, QM, Customer Service, as well as returns. "This was supposed to be a temporary solution at first," Guido says. But he soon got more responsibility in his job and helped to establish international return centres in Barcelona, Switzerland, and Swiebodzin. Back at home, he worked his way up from Team Lead to Senior Area Lead until he landed his current position. The career path towards evaluation is a great fit for Guido, who thinks of himself as "someone who understands numbers well and is great at detecting coherences."

Error culture and working at Ingram Micro

From his years of experience, Guido says that everyone who is dedicated, open and honest can make it at Ingram Micro. It's important to him to openly talk about errors because "errors happen everywhere". He also once accidentally booked 1 million articles out of the system. But thanks to his open and honest approach, he and his team managed to quickly solve this mishap. The Manager Quality Assurance operates following this motto: "Why did it happen and how can we make it better next time." A good error culture is important to Guido because he does not believe in accusations. It is better to question the causes instead and then just "live with them and learn from them", Guido believes.

Guido still feels comfortable at Ingram Micro, which was the case in the beginning when they were only a small team, as well as today with about 2,600 employees working at our site. Although this goes without saying for us, the Manager Quality Assurance highlights the punctual and reliable salary payment. Ingram Micro employees have access to the employee assistance programme LifeWorks which is a "wonderful service where you can get support", Guido enthusiastically says. He also emphasises that "money is not important when it comes to necessary trainings, and that you can always ask for help".
