From Restaurateur to Logistics Specialist:

We welcome Career Jumpers like Thomas!

Being always on the move, well-organised, and detail-oriented are some characteristics a good logistics specialist should have. This is an exciting job offering opportunities to career jumpers too. People switching careers are welcome in logistics, as long as they can work in a structured manner. Just like Thomas Günther, who joined our company in summer 2017. Being a trained chef, he already had the qualifications mentioned, which are an excellent basis for truly getting things going. "After eight years as head chef, I wanted to make a career outside of restaurants," he says. "So I started as a Pack Team Lead, and in the beginning, I was responsible for 20 to 30 employees." But Thomas soon realised he wanted more. "I'm always trying to improve things in my everyday working life, I'm interested in getting ahead and I'm looking for new challenges – and people at Ingram Micro noticed that." So, after only four months, Thomas was offered the position of Shift Lead. He accepted the offer and was now responsible for up to 150 colleagues.

His next step up the career ladder was Area Lead where Thomas was responsible for 500 employees and scouted for new talents in his teams. "People making an effort and showing their potential will always be noticed by us," Thomas says. "I appreciate this company culture, I profited from it myself after all. Anyone who would like to make a career here can definitely do so." Thomas is also constantly working on his career and has recently been promoted to Control Room Manager.

Thomas also appreciates the high level of autonomy for superiors and the different trainings and workshops. "Languages, legal matters, and employee trainings – there is a strong emphasis on training." He has already become a training instructor here at Ingram Micro and is now responsible for the vocational trainees on site, among other tasks. Discovering improvement potentials and implementing improvements motivate Thomas. "Our Management's door is always open, and we can talk about everything." This is the exact same openness he expects from job applicants. "People from up to 60 countries work here. People who are open, want to work and progress are welcome here."
