Internship - Onboarding and First Impression
Dear Ingram Micro Family,
My name is Diane, I come from Lebanon and I am the new HR intern at Ingram Micro in Großbeeren.
I moved to Berlin in October for my Master studies in Business Psychology. Since having a practical experience along my studies is important to me, I was also looking for an internship where I can further deepen my understanding of HR and put my knowledge into practice. Ingram Micro seemed to be a perfect place for that, especially given that it is an international company where doing an internship in English is no problem at all.
Since I have recently started and have only been here for about a month, I will be sharing with you my onboarding experience and my first month so far.
The first day of my arrival to Ingram, I was warmly welcomed by a lot of smiling faces, which gave me a great first impression. I started with an induction day where I was given general information and safety instructions plus a tour of the shop floor. I was really impressed by how big and organized the shopfloor is.
I spent the first few days in the shop floor where I got familiar with the whole process - from Inbound to Outbound - and got the chance to learn by doing. Spending some days on the ‘front line’ was very beneficial; it did not only make me understand what I was going to work towards but also see how much effort the shop floor employees are putting in every day.
Then the next few days were at the office where I met with the different HR teams and got introduced to their different tasks and projects. The first team that I started working with is Employer Branding; I am currently supporting and taking part in some exciting projects where my ideas are very much appreciated.
Finally, and apart from being welcomed and well taken care of, I also directly felt a sense of belonging (from the smallest things like getting a welcome bag and branded shirts to being included in important meetings), so I am really grateful for the opportunity and happy to be a part of Ingram Micro.
I am very much looking forward to the next few months!
Yours,
Diane
